Job Description
ABOUT US Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is an independent, nonprofit research institution. It was selected as one of the top places to work in the Seattle area (Seattle magazine.) Home to three Nobel Laureates, it offers a collegial, interactive, and intellectually stimulating environment.

JOB DESCRIPTION A postdoctoral research position in genetic epidemiology/statistical genetics is available at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center provides a challenging academic and supportive multi-disciplinary research environment.

We are seeking a recent or prospective doctoral graduate (PhD or equivalent qualification) with training in biostatistics, epidemiology, quantitative genetics, or closely related field. Please note that this is not a laboratory-based position. The ideal applicant will have a background in genome wide association study analysis or analysis of next-generation sequencing data (e.g. Solexa or Solid). The post-doctoral fellow/research associate will work directly with Drs. Ulrike Peters and Christopher Carlson on a next-generation resequencing project within the Cancer Prevention Program and Women’s Health Initiative (WHI). The WHI sequencing project (WHISP) is a two year ARRA grant from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, with the objective of selecting WHI participants with particularly interesting phenotypes for exomic resequencing analysis, in order to screen for genes and pathways that are enriched for rare, functional polymorphism relevant to the phenotype.

The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary research team to perform data analyses, develop and/or implement novel statistical methods relevant for genetic association studies of rare variants in exomic sequence data. This work will include high throughput sequence data cleaning and analysis, functional predictions for rare coding SNPs, and pathway analysis using gene ontologies. The applicant will play a major role in prosecuting the statistical analyses, as well as in drafting manuscripts and presenting results at professional meetings.
