Job Description

ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

The School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences (SoMSS) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for tenure-track or tenured positions at any rank beginning in the Fall semester of 2010. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in the mathematical or statistical sciences, or in a related field, by August 10, 2010. We anticipate filling three positions. One position is in probability or statistics, one is in core mathematics, and one is open in terms of fields. SoMSS has a strongly interdisciplinary oriented research profile that includes numerous collaborations inside and outside the university, such as in the social sciences, education, physical sciences, engineering, biological sciences, environmental sciences, and medicine. We seek candidates whose research complements that of faculty in the School and/or other academic units at ASU that interface with mathematics. This may warrant an interdisciplinary or joint appointment. ASU has several initiatives that relate to the mathematical and statistical sciences, such as the Biodesign Institute, energy, sustainability, and climate.

We seek outstanding candidates who will become nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields. Candidates at the assistant professor level must also have demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching at all levels. Candidates at the tenured associate professor or full professor level must have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching at all levels, and should have experience advising graduate students, The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research and publish in the mathematical sciences or its applications, provide quality teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in on-campus interdisciplinary activities and appropriate professional service.

Applications must be submitted online through http://www.mathjobs.org, where full ads for each position may be found.

All applications must include the following:

1)a curriculum vitae; 2) a personal statement addressing their research agenda; 3) a statement of teaching philosophy and 4) a completed AMS Standard Cover Sheet form.

At least four letters of recommendation must also be submitted at this site, including one that addresses teaching.

A background check is required for employment.

The initial deadline to apply is December 4, 2009 at 5:00pm in Arizona; if not filled, weekly thereafter until the search is closed.

Arizona State University is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. The title IX statement can be viewed at: https://www.asu.edu/titleIX/.

NOTES: Telecommuting is allowed. International Candidates Will Be Considered. Employer will assist with relocation costs
