The Department of Mathematics is in the process of developing a new option to the Master’s degree, in Statistics. To support this program and the overall needs of the Department of Mathematics, we invite applications for a tenure track Assistant Professorship in Statistics, to commence in 2018. The date of commencement can be either January 18 (Spring semester), or August 22 (Fall semester). Candidates must demonstrate an ability and commitment to teaching, mentoring, and working with a diverse student population. The Department of Mathematics is particularly interested in candidates with a demonstrated strong research potential in any of the following: high-dimensional data and statistical learning, functional data analysis, resampling and computer-intensive statistics, spatial statistics, hierarchical modelling, biostatistics, time series analysis. Candidates must have a PhD in Statistics or Bio-statistics before the hiring date.
At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.
A successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research program, teach appropriate mathematics and statistics and probability courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, advise students, and contribute with service to the department and university. The department strives to increase student involvement in research, and is particularly looking for candidates who can support this mission by mentoring students and obtaining external funding for their research. Interest in preparing future secondary teachers is also desirable.
