The Biostatistics Consulting Center in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, USU, invites applications for appointment as an Assistant Professor- Biostatistics consultant (tenure ineligible track). The Center provides statistical consulting to USU faculty, staff and students engaged in the design of studies and experiments; statistical and graphical analysis of data; choice, application, interpretation and reporting of statistical methods; preparation of presentations and publications; and revision of papers based on referee comments. Duties: The incumbent will serve as an Assistant Professor-Biostatistics Consultant in the Biostatistics Consulting Center of PMB and as such, will be responsible for providing bio-statistical research project support and training for USUHS faculty and students. Major responsibilities include supporting researchers in the preparation of research proposals and protocols, including study design, analysis plans and sample size and power calculations. Advising researchers in multiple aspects of biostatistical analysis, including data collection, storage and manipulation; selection and use of statistical software; performance and interpretation of statistical analyses; and presentation of results. Participating in department teaching, research and service programs on an as-needed basis.
Because of the nature of this interaction, the ability to communicate sometimes complicated biostatistical concepts to students and faculty with minimal biostatistics experience will be an important component of these services.
Qualification Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of an earned doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent degree) in biostatistics, computational biology, computational ecology, bioinformatics, data science, or related field form an accredited university or institution.
The position requires: demonstrated research skills and subject knowledge in the area of expertise; experience teaching medical and graduate students; demonstrated experience working with electronic data management, data mining, and machine learning methods; knowledge of experimental design, strong communication skills, and a customer-service driven attitude are essential; and exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills to provide presentations in a public forum. The incumbent must be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level in accordance with SOM and USUHS academic policies.
