The School of Science and Mathematics at Truman State University is seeking applicants for at least one non tenure-track position in Statistics to begin August 2018. The position is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor depending on the candidate’s qualifications. The position is a one-year, full-time appointment on a 9-month contract with the possibility of renewal for up to 3 additional years depending on performance, departmental needs, and funding.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate statistics classes offered by the Department of Statistics and performing other duties as assigned. Other duties could include advising, mentoring students in research, or service to the university and community.
Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree (doctoral degree for Assistant Professor rank) in statistics or a closely related field with substantial coursework or teaching experience in statistics by the date of employment.
Applicants will be evaluated on:
Demonstrated potential for and evidence of excellence in teaching college-level statistics
Evidence of strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills
Ability to teach multiple undergraduate courses taught within the department (including Basic Statistics, ANOVA, Regression, and Data Science)
Experience with statistical software (including R)
Desire and ability to support Truman’s liberal arts mission both within and outside the department

Program: In 2017, the Department of Statistics at Truman State University began offering an undergraduate statistics major with applied, theoretical, and data science concentrations. The department currently has 9 full-time faculty members with a variety of specialties who support our major and campus-wide needs to over 1800 students annually. Minors in Statistics and Statistical Methods are offered by the department, with active support for a minor in Actuarial Science and other interdisciplinary areas.
