Statistics Professor - Tenured Faculty Position
The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites faculty applications in Statistics at the rank of tenured Full Professor. This position is part of a cluster hire in Statistics. The ideal candidate is expected to be interested in providing leadership to the Statistics Program as it develops into a Program in Statistical, Actuarial, and Data Sciences. The candidate should lead the Program in interdisciplinary activities and prospective collaboration with departments of Biology, Environmental Science as well as the UTRGV School of Medicine.
The successful candidate should have:
- A strong personal research and teaching record in statistical, actuarial or data sciences.
- Experience mentoring MS and Ph.D. students and acquisition of grant funding.
- A strong commitment to the advancement of the statistics discipline in general, including emerging modern trends in data analysis that use statistics as a foundational science.
- A strategic vision for development of an Applied Statistics Program that supports the goals of the College and the University.
- The ability to maintain, develop, and direct a diverse and vigorous research and teaching program that nurtures and supports faculty interests in independent and collaborative interdisciplinary research and teaching.
Minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. in statistics or another quantitative science from an accredited university with previous administrative experience and currently holding a position at the rank of Professor. Preference will be given to a candidate with excellent people skills and administrative philosophy grounded in a belief that diversification and shared governance are foundations for academic success. The candidate must possess the supervisory and leadership skills needed to lead accomplished teachers and scholars at an emerging research university.

Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Statistics
The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SMSS) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the area of Biostatistics and one tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Actuarial Sciences. These positions are part of a cluster hire in Statistics at UTRGV. Preferred research areas include applications of statistics in medical and public health (preferably on the Brownsville campus), in environmental sciences (preferably on the Brownsville campus) and in actuarial sciences (on Edinburg campus).
Excellent opportunities exist for collaborations with colleagues in several departments across the university including the newly established School of Medicine and South Texas Institute of Diabetes and Obesity, the College of Health Affairs, the newly established School of Earth, Environmental and Marine sciences in the College of Sciences, and the College of Business and Entrepreneurship at UTRGV. The appointment involves teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels including the supervision of undergraduate and Master’s level research projects. Applicants with strong research background and experience in teaching a diverse student body as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning are preferred.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Actuarial Sciences or any other quantitative science at the time of hire. Strong research credentials and commitment to teaching excellence and well as service to the community and mentorship of students are required. Post-doctoral experience is desired.
