The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for the position of Chair, Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The successful applicant may also be eligible for an endowed professorship. We seek a dynamic individual with demonstrated leadership abilities who will build on departmental strengths, recruit outstanding faculty, promote scholarly initiatives - especially in terms of externally supported grant efforts - and be an advocate to both internal University and external constituencies. The area of specialization within the discipline is open. In 2017, the Department launched two Ph.D. programs - one in Mathematics and one in Statistics and Data Science. Interested candidates are expected to champion the development of these new programs, with special emphasis on recruiting graduate students and promoting their success.
The Department has ~25 graduate students and more than 100 majors, and it is home to a dynamic group of over 20 graduate faculty with diverse interests and expertise in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Probability and Statistics. UNR and the Reno community provide ample opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaborations, consulting, and internships with organizations, such as the Desert Research Institute, Nevada Advanced Autonomous Systems Innovation Center, the Nevada Center for Applied Research, the InNEVation Center (powered by Switch), Apple's and Switch's Data Centers, and the recently established Tesla Gigafactory.

The Chair must be familiar with and supportive of the general education mission of a Mathematics and Statistics department across a typical university campus, as well as have a commitment to undergraduate and graduate education. Applicants must have a PhD, a scholarly record meriting appointment as a full professor, and a record of relevant administrative or leadership experience.
