The Department of Statistics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor to begin September 1, 2019. Exceptional candidates at higher ranks will be considered subject to additional approval from the administration. This is a nine-month appointment. A Ph.D. in statistics or a related field is required. Applicants are expected to have demonstrated outstanding research potential and excellence in teaching. The Department of Statistics currently have 25 regular faculty members, several others with courtesy appointments, and about 8 teaching faculty. Faculty members have joint appointments in Biostatistics, Center for Statistical Consultation and Research, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Industrial & Operations Engineering, Institute for Social Research, Political Science, Psychiatry, Psychology, and Sociology. Our faculty members have broad research interests, covering statistical theory, methodology, and computing. We are also engaged in a wide range of interdisciplinary applications in life sciences, social sciences, engineering, information technology, etc.
