As part of the Biomedical Data Science Hub of the Dell Medical School, the position supports quantitative aspects of the knowledge creation and translation missions of the School. In a highly collaborative mode, the individual will interact with Dell investigators on research projects.

Under the direction of the Director of the Hub or other PhD/Faculty (bio)statisticians, the individual will use collaborative skills and knowledge of classical and modern statistical methodology and applications to provide professional biostatistical support for biomedical, clinical, and population health research.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze and interpret data including selection and application of statistical methods. Prepare reports of findings including graphical displays. Educate collaborators on statistical methods. Collaborate on the development of reports or manuscripts for peer-review, including but not limited to scholarly journals. Additional duties may include review of statistical components of protocols for IRB review and/or statistical analysis plans. Study Design and Grant Development: Develop research study designs including selection of appropriate statistical analysis methods and sample size and power calculations. Evaluate sources of existing data in order to determine any limitations in terms of reliability and usability. Collaborate on the development of research or project grant applications and contribute to the writing of the grant. Educate collaborators on statistical methods proposed for their data. Interact with the DMS Data Core responsible for gathering, curating, and maintaining modern and highly interconnected data on health, health care, and public health in Travis County and beyond. As appropriate, may also serve as a liaison between one or more DMS units and the Hub and interact with medical students and residents on research projects. May conduct specialized research projects at an advanced level, with a wide latitude for creativity in experimental applications. Determine project requirements and desired results and procedures to attain such results. May coordinate and supervise research staff. Report results of research in in-house publications, journal articles as appropriate. Reporting about research activities of self and/or other members of the Hub as needed; professional development appropriate for collaborative area; miscellaneous projects related to the function of the Hub. Perform other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Statistics or Biostatistics or very closely related field, with major coursework in statistics. Two years statistical consulting or collaborative experience. Thorough knowledge and ability to use common statistical software packages such as SAS, Stata and SPSS to perform descriptive statistics and other basic statistical computations. Practical understanding of data privacy practices and laws to ensure privacy, confidentiality, security, and of IRB/Institutional approval processes. Excellent communication and collaborative skills, both oral and written. Interest in learning about diverse areas of biomedical, clinical, and population health sciences. Professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
