The School of Science and Mathematics at Truman State University is seeking applicants for one full-time tenure-track position in Statistics to begin August 2019. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities: Successful candidates will provide classroom instruction in undergraduate statistics classes offered by the Department of Statistics, maintain scholarly activity consistent with the teacher-scholar model, serve on departmental and university committees, and perform other duties as assigned. Other duties include advising, mentoring students in research, and/or curriculum development.
A doctoral degree in statistics or a closely related field with substantial coursework in statistics — ABD candidates (with expected completion at the date of employment, and not later than within one year of employment) will be considered.
Coursework or programming experience using R Statistical Software.
Applicants will be evaluated on:
academic qualifications and previous relevant experience,
skill and background with modern statistical software (including R) and other data science tools, although all statistical specialties will be considered,
ability to teach multiple undergraduate courses taught within the department (including Basic Statistics, data science/statistical computing courses, and applied undergraduate statistics courses such as ANOVA and Linear Regression),
evidence of teaching effectiveness or potential teaching excellence,
evidence of potential for research activity consistent with the teacher-scholar model,
evidence of strong oral, writing, and interpersonal skills, and
ability and desire to support Truman’s liberal arts mission both within and outside the department.

Program: In 2017, the Department of Statistics at Truman State University began offering an undergraduate statistics major with applied, theoretical, and data science concentrations. The department has 9 full-time faculty members with a variety of specialties who support our major and campus-wide needs to over 60 sections of statistics courses to 1800 students annually.
