Job Description Summary
The Research Consultant is a statistical consultant. This position is called on to advise clients (faculty) on many aspects of research including: research design, survey design, data gathering methodology (e.g. web scraping), data input, and data analysis. The Research Consultant is responsible for staying abreast of statistical procedures and will need to work in concert with the Sr. Research Consultant and faculty on numerous projects. He/she must have an understanding of research design, statistical methodology, and statistical software such as STATA, R, SAS and/or SPSS and be able to communicate this understanding to faculty, administrators, support staff, and PhD students. In addition, the consultant will also be responsible for the transformation of data from the format in which it is received to formats which permit ease of use for research.
Provide research consulting to faculty. Analyzes faculty research project needs and applies appropriate research methodologies across a variety of disciplines.
Manipulates acquired data to a form usable by the faculty member assisting with both data extraction, interpretation, formatting and storing.
Evaluates and recommends statistical resources and platforms for use in instruction and research initiatives.
Prepares and conducts faculty workshops on research tools and methodologies for specific disciplines or general academic use.
Continues to stay abreast of latest researching trends -technologies and methodologies.
Advising PhD students.
Masters in Statistics or Social Sciences.
Minimum of 2 years in a statistical research position role in an academic or corporate environment where researching, training and program development are emphasized.
Proven excellent oral and written communication and training skills.
Must have experience in several database management and statistical software packages such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, R.
Experience in academic research. Experience with SQL, Tableau is preferred.
Most work done at computer, at desk, on phone, in meeting, etc. However, overtime hours frequently required to complete projects due to scheduling factors beyond control (short lead time, temperamental equipment, client availability, etc.)
Much of work accomplished on the computer or computer-controlled equipment - care must be taken to avoid eyestrain and repetitive action injuries.
