The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites applicants for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. The Department is seeking applications from qualified individuals whose research complements that of the existing Statistics faculty and has relevance to biostatistics and/or the modeling of complex systems. Successful candidates will be expected to undertake an active program of research that leads to publication and/or presentation in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets and, where available, to seek extramural funding for that research. In addition, successful candidates will be expected to teach, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students when appropriate. These positions provide outstanding opportunities for collaborative/interdisciplinary research with the Larner College of Medicine, the UVM Cancer Center, the Vermont Complex Systems Center, the UVM Transportation Research Center, the Vermont Advanced Computing Core, and the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources.
Assistant Professor of Statistics (tenure track, 9-month appointment)
Candidates are required to have a doctorate in statistics, biostatistics or a related field prior to the start date. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated interest and expertise in any area of biostatistics. The successful candidate will have strong training, ability to maintain an excellent research program, interest in undertaking collaborative research with other groups at UVM, and potential to secure extramural funding. The ability to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate statistics courses, and the potential to supervise graduate students, is required. A competitive startup package is available.
Assistant Professor of Statistics (tenure track, 9-month appointment)
Candidates are required to have a doctorate in biostatistics, epidemiology or a related discipline, and a research focus on infectious diseases of global significance. The successful candidate will be committed to developing a career as an independently-funded researcher, will hold a secondary appointment in the UVM Larner College of Medicine, and will be a junior investigator in UVM’s NIH-funded Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) on translational global infectious disease research. S/he will collaborate with other COBRE faculty members and trainees, devote significant effort toward a research project/program within the COBRE, and participate in COBRE opportunities designed to accelerate the candidate’s research career (e.g., research symposia, mentoring, and career development activities). The COBRE efforts include 3-months of dedicated Summer Research effort for the first 3 years of the appointment. The ability to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate statistics courses is required. A competitive startup package is available.
