The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Statistics beginning Fall Semester 2019. Responsibilities of this position include teaching, research, and contribution to the Department’s program. For this appointment, candidates must have a Ph.D. in statistics or biostatistics (or its requirements completed) by August 15, 2019.
The primary selection criteria will be an applicant’s potential for quality research and effective teaching in support of the Department’s instructional responsibilities including all levels of undergraduate mathematics as well as graduate mathematics. Amongst applicants who are found highly qualified with respect to these criteria, preference will be given to those having expertise in areas such as statistical learning, Bayesian inference, computational statistics, longitudinal data analysis, reliability, and survival analysis and those with strong research collaboration with members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has 23 full-time faculty members, who have research strengths in pure and applied mathematics and statistics. The Department offers baccalaureate degrees in mathematics, statistics, and actuarial science; Master’s degrees in mathematics, industrial and applied mathematics, and applied statistics; and a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematical Sciences with concentrations in the three different areas of continuous mathematics, discrete mathematics and statistics. In addition, the Department teaches a full range of service courses to students in the sciences, engineering, business and education programs.
