The University of Vermont (UVM) is recruiting a research scholar pathway biomedical statistician eligible for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank to serve as Director of our Biomedical Statistics Research Core in the Larner College of Medicine (LCOM).
The Biomedical Statistics Research Core, http://med.uvm.edu/research/corefacilites, provides consultative services for investigators and trainees. The majority of core services are associated with LCOM although the core also serves other UVM campus units and external entities. The most common consultation requests are for assistance with clinical trials and secondary data analyses. Core services include assistance with study design, outcome measurement, data management, analysis, and reporting. Investigators are encouraged to contact the core in the early phases of grant development. Growth is projected in the need for services supporting our new Center for Health Services Research, https://www.med.uvm.edu/healthservicesresearch/home. Consultations will include requests for assistance with secondary data analyses of large electronic healthcare and claims databases. In addition to its key research service role, the core also has education and training components that include collaboration with the Statistics Program housed in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, https://www.uvm.edu/cems/mathstat.
The research scholar pathway is a full time renewable faculty appointment corresponding to 4- and 6-year faculty appointments for the Associate Professor and Professor ranks, respectively. The primary faculty appointment for the new core Director will reside in an LCOM department appropriate to the expertise and interests of the selected candidate. In the capacity of core director, the selected candidate will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Research at LCOM.
Expectations 1. Direct the Biomedical Statistics Research Core including oversight of affiliated research faculty and support staff, and associated operating budgets. o Leading priority is to maintain a strong biomedical statistics consultation service with a primary focus on support of the research activities of faculty and trainees. o Education and training – engage, educate, and mentor faculty/trainees. o Recruit and support PhD faculty and MS-level staff to maintain a strong Biomedical Statistics Core. o Work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Research to foster collaboration with other units like the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. o There is opportunity to engage in teaching and to pursue independent funding for research activities, but the selected candidate is expected to maintain at least a 70% biomedical statistics consultative commitment.

Qualifications: 1. Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) with strong expertise in biomedical statistics. 2. Experience in biomedical statistics research that includes the oversight and provision of consultative services. 3. Experience in the management and analysis of large healthcare and claims databases for research purposes is desirable. 4. A strong record of participating in scholarly peer-reviewed publications and securing extramural research salary support as a consulting statistician that are consistent with appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. 5. Evidence of success in leading, coordinating, and facilitating biomedical statistics research teams.
