We are seeking a R&D S&E Mathematics professional with a deep understanding of statistics. If chosen, you will serve in a leadership role for the Statistical Sciences department.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Conduct and manage technical work and lead interdisciplinary teams in developing and implementing innovative statistical solutions to challenging National security problems.
Significantly increase Sandia's capacity to conduct high quality interdisciplinary research across the lab.
Assist department manager in strategic planning and help grow the statistics capability for Sandia.
Advance and guide a research portfolio for the department and increase visibility of the department in the broader statistics community.
About Our Team
The Statistical Sciences department provides innovative statistical solutions to help solve the most challenging national security problems and are leaders in the advancement of statistical methodologies for national defense applications. Through research, collaboration, and education we inform the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to help Sandia execute its missions. We develop and deploy statistical algorithms to significantly enhance national security capabilities.
Statisticians within the department participate as collaborators, principal investigators, and consultants in a broad range of activities that extend across and outside the Laboratories. They provide statistical expertise and support to all of Sandia mission areas. The activities include project participation (via statistical analysis and methodology development), applied research and development, teaching, and publishing. Areas of emphasis include design of experiments, industrial statistics, statistical quality control, probabilistic modeling and computer simulation, Bayesian statistics, spatial data analysis, functional data analysis, machine learning, reliability and maintainability analysis, margin and uncertainty analysis, and metrology.

Qualifications We Require
PhD in Statistics or related field plus 10 years of experience or MS in Statistics or related field plus 15 years of experience
Publication record indicative of relevant research expertise
Programming experience in MATLAB, R, or a related language
Qualifications We Desire
Strong interest in or demonstrated capacity to team in an interdisciplinary R&D environment
Demonstrated excellence in research and teaching as evidenced by a history of peer-reviewed publications and involvement in funded studies. Preference will be given to those with experience leading statistical research projects as well as mentoring students and/or junior staff in statistical research
Demonstrated scientific productivity and a record of advancing the state-of-the-art in applied statistical methodologies
Demonstrated research community leadership through activities such as participation in student or professional organizations, service on committees, workshop and/or conference organization, and editorial roles.
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
