The Department of Epidemiology and Health Services Research and Geisinger's Biostatistics Core is recruiting a full-time PhD Biostatistician. This position is eligible for a faculty appointment depending on qualifications and career interests. The Department currently consists of six faculty members and the Core has nine staff with a mix of MS- and PhD level positions. The Department and the Biostatistics Core has strong interest to expand capabilities in multi-level modeling and spatial statistics. We are also actively recruiting at the MS level.
The Biostatistician will assist investigators throughout all stages of research from proposal drafting to analysis and interpretation, provide training in biostatistical methods, and mentor junior biostatisticians. Specifically, the individual will participate in study design, sample size and power estimation, analysis plan writing, data collection design, randomization, data management, and biostatistical analysis. Experience in logistic regression, time-to-event (survival), multi-level modeling, spatial statistics, and weighting methods for observational EHR data analysis methods are essential. Experience managing large datasets in a healthcare environment preferred. The candidate must have experience in programming for data management and complex data analysis using SAS or R. The Biostatistics Core collaborates with several clinical departments including Urology, Cardiology, Medicine, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Pediatrics and others, and support full-time faculty on grant related efforts.
Faculty appointments have additional responsibilities to pursue independent research ideas and generous start-up packages are available.

Advanced skills and knowledge in biostatistics, statistical methods in medical and clinical research, and clinical epidemiology
Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate quantitative information to medical personnel and administrative staff.
Possesses the critical thinking skills needed to provide statistical support to clinical investigators.
Experienced SAS or R programmer for both data manipulation and statistical analysis.
Detail-oriented with excellent validation and documentation skills

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
PhD degree in biostatistics or a closely related field, required.
Consulting experience in a healthcare environment (2 or more years preferred), 1 year required.
Experience with at least one major statistical software package (SAS) or R, required.
