The successful applicants will join a leading statistics department, and will be expected to engage in research, teaching, and graduate student training at the forefront of the discipline.
The incumbent will teach three semester-length statistics courses per year; participate in the training of graduate students; conduct research on statistical theory, methods, and application; publish in leading journals in statistics, data science, and closely related fields and present them at national and international meetings; and participate in professional and university service and outreach.
The Department has 22 regular faculty members and more than 180 graduate students. Many faculty members have joint appointments in other departments. The Department is well known for its strong interplay between statistical theory, methodology, and practice. The University of Wisconsin-Madison ranks among the top universities in the country in research expenditures and provides excellent support for faculty seeking external funding. Internal research support is available from funds provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. Madison is a pleasant medium-sized city (about 250,000 population) located in the lake region of southern Wisconsin. It is the state capital with a large base for educational research and government activities as well as university-industry interaction. The university and community offer outstanding intellectual, cultural and recreational activities. Multiple tenure-track assistant professor positions in UW-Madison Statistics Department, beginning August 2020. PhD in statistics or related quantitative field required. PhD in Statistics or related quantitative field
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Demonstrated excellence or demonstrated potential for excellence in statistics research. Experience in methodological research in data science, machine learning, statistical computing, Bayesian statistics, or statistical modeling is highly desirable. Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in one or more of these areas or in statistical consulting is preferred. Other desirable attributes include excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with an interdisciplinary and collaborative intellectual community
