The Department of Mathematics of the New York Institute of Technology is inviting applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2020. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Statistics/Applied Mathematics/Mathematics offered by a Mathematics Department at the time of appointment. Areas of greatest need and interest are for applicants with expertise in Statistics, especially in applied and computational statistics and statistical learning, and those areas of Applied Mathematics most relevant to computational science, operations research, optimization and data science applicable to mathematical (statistical) modeling.
Selected candidate is required to teach all pre-calculus, calculus service courses and other advanced courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. NYIT emphasizes interdisciplinary research and teaching. The faculty member will have the opportunity to develop and participate in new interdisciplinary initiatives with other STEM disciplines, and contribute to our new upcoming major in Applied and Computational Mathematics.
The projected start date is Fall 2020 with primary teaching responsibilities at the Long Island Campus, and with possible occasional teaching in New York City.
A PhD degree in Mathematics/Statistics/any field within Computational Mathematics is required. Candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching and must have a well-defined research program with publications and/or research activities that show promise for publication. Postdoctoral experience and a potential for securing external grants is preferred.
