Chevron Oronite Company is accepting online applications for the position of Data Scientist located in Richmond, California.
The successful candidate will work with a small team of statistical consultants and decision analysts to support Chevron Oronite Products and Technology (P&T) and a variety of other Chevron and industry research clients. The team supports many function areas including business management, product management, chemical research, performance testing, product development, sales, and manufacturing. In addition to support in the U.S., the position provides statistical support globally.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Partnering with the business to identify opportunities to apply data science and advanced analytics techniques to achieve business value
Problem solving for improved decision making by means of effective data science, analytics, and optimization techniques focused on facilitating exploratory chemistry, validating marketing claims, improving process capability, and developing strategic positions.
Working (i.e. designing, programming, testing, implementing, deploying, monitoring) with advanced machine learning and statistical algorithms
Developing processes and tools to monitor and analyze model performance and data accuracy along with establishing the life cycle management process for models
Playing a critical part in both the scalability and increased visibility of work across Oronite Products & Technology (P&T) thus maximize the value of data science and analytics
Providing thought leadership in terms of data engineering efforts to build and sustain future data sources and architecture by enabling various analytics efforts while collaborating with relevant IT teams
Visualizing data in a meaningful way enabling the business to quickly draw conclusions and make decisions.
Ability to engage business and technical experts at all organizational levels and assess opportunities to apply data science analytics to improve their workflows and deliver information and insight to support business decisions
Building analytics organizational capability among citizen data scientists/users across Oronite P&T by training, mentoring, coaching, and developing partnerships on various key projects
B.S. or Master’s degree in Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or another quantitative field
Demonstrated competency in data science and analytics with focus on statistical methods
Proficiency and experience coding in several statistical programming languages (e.g. R, Python, Matlab, SAS, SQL, and/or JMP) and environments (e.g., RStudio, databricks, Anaconda, etc.)
Knowledge and experience in statistical and machine learning techniques (e.g., GLM/multivariate regression, confidence intervals, simulation, experimental design + ANOVA, hypothesis testing, time series, sample-size estimation, clustering, decision tress, Random Forests, Boosting, CART, XGBoost, neural networks, etc.)
Ability to learn and evaluate technical information to synthesize meaningful conclusions and recommendations
Strong consulting skills with ability to influence with integrity
Ph.D. degree in Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or another quantitative field
3+ Years of directly related work experience implementing advanced analytics solutions
Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and tools in its ecosystem
Teamwork experience based on trust, ingenuity, and partnership
Demonstrated ability to lead through high performance vision and embracing diversity
Knowledge and experience with statistics as applied to technology development, decision making, chemistry, and manufacturing processes
