The Research Department has an immediate opening for a Senior Business Survey Specialist to join a collaborative team of research analysts and regional economists in our Regional and Community Analysis unit.
The Business Survey Specialist conducts surveys and related research activity relevant to economic conditions and community development in the Fifth Federal Reserve District and the U.S. We’re looking for someone with demonstrated experience in survey design and administration, including respondent recruitment and retention. An ideal candidate will also have strong research, analytical, and writing skills, and the ability to understand and interpret economic research. The position is located in the Bank’s riverfront headquarters building in Richmond, Va.
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Conduct complex surveys by determining sampling techniques, analyzing data, and preparing reports, graphs, and tables
Perform research including literature searches, data collection, data organization, economic and statistical analysis, and reporting
Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis
Write detailed survey and research findings for inclusion in internal or external publications, and present conclusions to Bank leaders and external audiences
Lead survey recruitment and retention to ensure surveys have a sufficient number and composition of respondents; direct work of interns who support recruitment of participants
Collaborate with Federal Reserve System partners and external partner organizations on survey programs
Perform data upkeep and maintain records of all survey and research activities
Undergraduate degree in economics or a related field (required); Master’s degree preferred
Five or more years of relevant work experience
Broad knowledge of survey methodology, economic theory, econometrics, and statistics
Acute attention to detail with a high level of data integrity and accuracy
Excellent research skills and analytical ability indicative of professionally-designed and executed research activities
Ability to write reports that concisely convey critical information about highly complex subjects
Excellent engagement skills sufficient to collaborate effectively with people at all levels of the organization and, to the extent relevant, external to the organization
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, econometric/statistical analysis software such as Stata or SAS, and survey software such as Qualtrics
