Summary:  The NCDB (National Cancer Database) Analytics team performs a variety of quantitative analytic functions for the NCDB team and in support of multiple cancer programs (e.g., American Joint Committee on Cancer).  The Statistician I performs data management, data quality assurance, quality improvement and statistical analyses using NCDB datasets.  This person executes analytic plans under the guidance and supervision of senior staff and management.

This exempt level position will report to the Manager, NCDB Analytics and Quality Reporting in the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Executes and defines standardized analytic plans under the guidance and supervision of senior staff and management for supporting Cancer Programs data analytics (e.g., American Joint Committee on Cancer chapter updates).  This may include classification methods, predictive and prognostic modeling, statistical learning methods, and employing various machine learning and data science techniques.
  
  
• Perform SAS code validation and data Quality Assurance as required for NCDB deliverables including the Rapid Cancer Reporting System, Warehouse, and NCDB Web Tools (e.g., Survival, Benchmarks).
  
  
• Provide committee meeting and logistics support to the Quality Integration Committees and subcommittees and the NCDB Steering Committee.
  
  
• Provide customer support to the NCDB and Cancer Programs teams.
  
  
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience:

• Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Quantitative Research Methods, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field is required.
  
  
• 4 or more years of relevant professional experience
  
  
• Advanced knowledge of SAS or a comparable and easily transferable programming skill set (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) is required.
  
  
• Understanding or development of risk calculators preferred.
  
  
• Significant experience with large data sets using SAS for data management (transformation and merging) and statistical methods such as descriptive summaries, linear and logistic multiple regression, mixed hierarchical models, survival analysis and model selection, along with graphs and report preparation strongly preferred.
  
  
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) necessary to effectively interact with all levels of organization.
  
  
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and leverage diverse skills and expertise sets of the team members.
  
  
• Display high level of energy and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  
  
• Experience in Associations, healthcare, and/or education a plus.
  
  

Physical/Work Environment: Fast paced with significant people interaction. No lifting over 20 pounds, minimal reaching bending and stooping. Normal office environment with long hours in front of the computer.

Other Necessary Requirements: Evening or weekend duties may be required.  Minimal travel for activities such as out of town meetings may be required.
