The Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University seeks candidates, characterized by excellence and vision in their research, for a Professor position in Stochastics. Aarhus University is an international top 100 University with its campus located centrally within the coastal city of Aarhus, Denmark. The position is available from 1 February 2022.
In 2019 the Department of Mathematics underwent a strategy review, resulting in 10 specific goals being set for the period 2020—2025. See here. The purpose of this call is to add a new professor to the Stochastics group who can help the department meet its strategic goals by the year 2025.
The Department of Mathematics currently employs 31 permanent scientific staff members in the traditional mathematical disciplines and stochastics. The Department is responsible for seven study programs: Bachelor and Master programs in Mathematics, Mathematics-Economics, and Data Science, as well as a Master program in Statistics.
The Stochastic Research Group at the Department of Mathematics has 13 permanent faculty members covering statistics, probability, optimization, data science and a small group offering statistic consultancy to the biosciences.
The Department has a strong international profile in probability theory and mathematical statistics, and has close research ties to “Center for Research in Econometric Analysis of Time Series” (CREATES), at the Department of Economics and Business Economics, as well as to two interdisciplinary centers: “Aarhus University Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics” (DIGIT), based at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, as well as “Bioinformatics Research Centre” (BiRC), based at the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
For the open position, we search for a person broadly within stochastics. While the assessment committee will evaluate the overall scientific achievements of all shortlisted candidates, they can only be expected to look into individual scientific results among those contained in publications submitted with the application.

Application procedure Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. All applicants will be notified within 6 weeks whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
