Faculty positions in biostatistics, health data science, and informatics areas are available in the Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science (BHDS), associated with the Indiana University School of Medicine and Fairbanks School of Public Health on the Indianapolis campus. Position level (Assistant, Associate, or Full) are dependent upon the qualifications, interests, and career goals of the applicant. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast growing BHDS Department with 28 faculty members and more than 50 professional staff. We are dedicated to excellence in biostatistical, health data science, and informatics research and education. We have an extensive portfolio of research program in related areas. Our NIH funding as principal investigators and co-investigators has been ranked among the top in the nation. The Department currently has an ongoing PhD program in Biostatistics, MS program in Biostatistics, and BS program in Health Data Science. We have established strong collaborations with both clinical and basic science research departments and divisions and health systems including IU Health and Eskenazi Hospitals as well as strong partnerships with major research institutes and centers including Regenstrief Institute, Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Indiana Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), Indiana University Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, Indiana Institute of Biomedical Research, and Indiana Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. Basic Qualifications Doctorate or Terminal degree is required. Quals: PhD in Biostatistics, Requirements include a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biostatistics, health data science, statistics, informatics, data science, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or related fields. Biostatistics and data science are two related fields that employ different methods to extract scientific knowledge from data. With faculty from both fields, the department functions as a central hub of biostatistics and data science research and education on this campus.
The Department of Biostatistics and Health Data Science-Indiana University School of Medicine’s mission has three interdependent components: research, service, and education. In research, faculty lead the development of innovative study designs and cutting-edge analytical methods. Faculty expertise covers all biostatistics and data science research areas, including bioinformatics, clinical trial design, observational studies and causal inference, statistical models, imaging processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, as well as advanced computational methods. In service, the department supports biomedical research in Indianapolis and beyond by providing study design, data management, and data analysis to support grant development and scientific publication. Faculty and staff collaborate with basic sc...ience researchers and medical investigators in all specialty areas. In education, the department strives to provide a conducive learning environment that prepares trainees to become statistical analysts and data scientists skilled in solving real-world problems. The department currently has three degree programs: PhD and MS degrees in Biostatistics and BS in Health Data Science.
