Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation has an opening for a Biostatistical Consultant II to join the team. This position is located within a musculoskeletal research lab that currently focuses on clinical trials, epidemiology, outcomes, and genetics research on patients with rehabilitation and orthopedic conditions such as rotator cuff tears that cause shoulder pain. The Biostatistical Consultant will work with a large clinical trial on rotator cuff tears called ARC: the Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Trial.
Other studies that the candidate will work with include a large multi-center study on the genetic epidemiology of rotator cuff tears called cuffGEN and a clinical trial on the efficacy of peripheral nerve stimulation in the treatment of chronic shoulder pain called PNS. We also perform secondary data analysis using available data repositories such as the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). The candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own research ideas that result in publications.
Our team consist of biostatisticians, methodologists, and clinicians that will help guide the biostatistical consultant’s work. The candidate will have independence and guidance from senior statisticians to ensure strong statistical methodology for clinically meaningful projects. With guidance and training, responsible for data management and data analysis for research studies including clinical trials and cohort studies. Candidate must be able to use quantitative and qualitative research methods for data analysis.
The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and detail-oriented, be able to handle multiple tasks, and possess strong data analytical skills. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and be comfortable interacting with team members including the PI and senior statisticians.
Experience and Education
Master's degree in biostatistics or related discipline, or MPH with a concentration in biostatistics.
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in statistical consulting with preference given to experience working in biomedical or health care environment.
Requires working knowledge of SAS, SPSS, or other major statistical package (S+, R, etc.) and Microsoft Office (ACCESS and EXCEL)
Collaborates with investigators to identify problems and provide statistical consultation including design of experiments of survey, analysis of data, interpretation of results and preparation of reports.
Writes statistical portions of manuscript based on results of analysis and address manuscript revisions based on reviewer\'s comments.
Assists client data organizations.
Performs statistical computations.
Provides graphical and tabular representations.
Develops, maintains, and modifies programs for in-house use.
Collaborates with investigators in grant development including statistical design of studies and preparation of statistical portion of grant proposal.
Performs non-statistical components of consulting such as providing analogous examples and explanations using non-technical terminology and helping researchers formulate and clarify research issues.
Visits client's work field whenever possible to establish rapport and to become familiar with and interested in client\'s research and data.
May supervise biostatistical consultants and/or data entry operators.
