Job Summary The Department of Statistics in the College of Science at Purdue University West Lafayette campus solicits applications for a Professor of Practice at the Assistant or Associate level to support online programs. Professors of Practice participate in departmental, college, and university-level activities and have professional development opportunities. The positions are non-tenure track faculty positions. While the position is with the Department of Statistics in West Lafayette, fully remote work is possible.
The Department, College, and University This position comes at a time of dynamic leadership and with significant investment in the College of Science, which comprises the computing, physical, and life sciences at Purdue. The College has committed considerable resources in Data Science and Statistics. The Department of Statistics has 38 faculty members, 13 lecturers, over 160 graduate students, and hundreds of undergraduates. The Department's teaching and research activities cover a broad range of topics integral to modern statistics (theoretical, methodological, computational, and applied), probability, and data science, as well as connections to computational finance and actuarial science, industrial statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, spatial statistics and environmental statistics, and statistical genetics and genomics. Building on Purdue University's historic land-grant mission, our online programs are designed to make a high-quality Purdue education as accessible and affordable as possible. This position specifically supports courses and programs run out of the Statistics department at the flagship West Lafayette campus, such as our Online MS in Applied Statistics as well as supporting larger university-wide initiatives such as the upcoming Online MS in Data Science.
Qualifications Applicants must hold a PhD in statistics or a related field or hold an MS in statistics combined with significant industry experience relevant to teaching online graduate statistics courses. Applicants should have experience teaching graduate statistics at an R1 University, specifically with experience developing and running online courses. Applicants should be committed to excellence in teaching and be able to develop and run a variety of online graduate courses in Statistics. Applicants without a PhD might be considered for a position at the Lecturer level instead of the Professor of Practice track.
